![]() Creating art that records beauty and promotes conservation of our fragile natural world. Cat Wilson is a freelance scientific illustrator and naturalist. Fascinated by the mourning doves, honeysuckle and other wildlife in her Oklahoma backyard, Cat spent most of her childhood outdoors studying nature and drawing her observations in crayon. After spending four years divided between art and science, Cat graduated from Hendrix College with a BA in Biology. She then spent another four years working for the Oklahoma Aquarium in the education department. As well as writing and presenting education programs to pre-school through college students, Cat also created artwork, graphs, posters, models for the Aquarium -- anything that would help her land-locked audience understand and relate to the ocean better. It was during this time she met science illustrator Brenda Knapp. Apprenticing with Brenda, Cat realized that she wanted to make illustration her career. Cat was accepted to the prestigious Science Illustration program of University of California in Santa Cruz, CA. After one the most intense and amazing years of her life spent learning the tools of her profession, Cat earned a Masters Certificate in Science Illustration. From there, she was chosen to intern with Scientific American magazine in New York, NY. When not illustrating Cat is reading or exploring New York’s wilderness. |
